Guerrilla Film with the Canon 7D EOS SLR
Behind the scenes shot and edited by Miles Maker for Converciné Communications. Behind the scenes of “Spare Change” the Movie–shot on the Canon EOS 7D SLR by Cinematographer Clayton Combe (www.tonmanproductions.com). A single-lens reflex (SLR) High Definition digital camera, the 7D offers amazing image quality and outstanding performance for under $2K. It shoots beautiful stills and video with an imager as large as Super 35mm film–with a replaceable lens option. “Spare Change” producers invited Converciné Communications behind the scenes on day one of principle photography for the short film written, produced, directed and featuring Suzette Azariah Gunn with Nicoye Banks, Fred Valle, JoAnna Powell, George Pappas, Kellie McCants, Glenn Fleary, Rich Holscher and Jaleah Keitt.
good stuff, thanks
for what I can tell, the projects seems interesting.
it’s a pity though that the video here is squished and interlaced…
@ Deviledpictures….Thanks so much for the advice/feedback !!! You know, I have the oppurtunity to own a crystal sync nagra reel to reel recorder. I’m sure with todays technology, it’s possible to use it even though the cine format is digital. If not…the tascam sounds good. I totaly agree about the assistant director and a quality boom man/sound. Good Lord…I’m excited !!!
Thank you my friend !!!!
@looney4958 Another note. I’ve shot 1 hr. TV documentaries before. I’d reccomend finding a good boom operator and a 1st assistant director (to keep track of the takes). That way in post its easier to find the audio takes. My first assistant director has saved my ass multiple times just by writing down take numbers/ time codes for the audio and video clips.
@looney4958 Hey. I’m a professional director/ cinematographer for TV. A good audio recorder for for something in the $400 to $1000 dollar range would be something like a Tascam DR-100 or Tascam HD-P2. Also look in to this company called Nagra. Really when shooting anything professionally all of the audio should be recorded seperately. Then to sync the audio I just use a slate (can buy one at B&H for $50).
I’m considering the 7D for a full feature documentary. Is it possible to record all of the audio sound on a seperate recorder and sync up in post? If so…any suggestions to a good quality recorder? I really would like excellent audio results and not from the camera itself. I’ve never shot with digital. Only super8mm and 16mm. Which I love but I feel that the 7d might solve financial issues and also obtain quality results.
Thank you. I enjoyed your video !!!!
