Great video. When do you should use butterfly tape and when Steristrips?
Should you date and rotate the medication
Quick question for the razor blade.
How to you cover the cutting edge? In the video it looks like a piece of brown tape, but it might be something else.
Thanks
@cromeister777 I’m in Australia too, and the first ibuprofen pack(Advil) I found in my house says that it can be used for pain relief and reducing fever lol.
where do you get the little bags that are the individual kits that are inside of the Level I FAK?
@USNERDOC Well I learned something today! I had a bad allergic reaction to something once and the chemist told me to take 1 claretyne ($1 each) a day and 2 phenergen at night (8 cents each) The Claretyne hardly worked but as soon as I took the Phenergen I was like a zombie and fell into a deep sleep within about 10 minutes. I can’t believe they are sold over the counter and are so cheap. Why would anyone buy expensive prescription sleeping tablets? Thanks for sharing your expert knowledge
@cromeister777 – Thanks for watching and for the input.
@cromeister777 –
3. Phenergan (promethazine) also has a number of indications which includes antiemetic (nausea/vomiting), sedation, motion sickness and allergies. It is an inexpensive medication. However, in the U.S. it requires a prescription and is not available over the counter.
As with all things, these medications represent “tools in the toolbox” and one needs to known the indications, side effects and potential complications before using them. Even the meds we discussed have problems.
@cromeister777 – Many thanks for the message and due respect taken and given back. I hope you realize I am a physician and have a very good understanding of over the counter and prescription medications.
1. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) which is used for pain, it is also anti-pyritic and can be used for fever.
2. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine with a number of indications for use including decongestant, allergy and a gentle sleep aid to name a few.
Hi Doc, I like the idea of the heavy duty stuff in your kit. I’m from Australia and Ibuprofen here is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, not used for pain or fever.
Benadryl is a cough medicine (decongestant) which can cause drowsiness. If you have trouble sleeping could I suggest Promethazine Hydrochloride (marketed hare as “Phenergan”) which is an antihistamine.. 2 pills will knock you out cold and they are cheap as chips.. about $4 for 50 tablets.
Great vid, and all due respect.
Thank you sir i see a couple of loose ends i need to tie in my kit
Great vid and excellent review! As far as the legality of drugs is concerned don’t have any controlled medications in your possession without the original bottle or proof of prescription. Sad how many times I’ve seen videos of the police arresting people carrying loose prescription meds. They are controlled for a reason. Of course, out in the field where this kit is nec you’re unlikely to be stopped by cops after a drug bust. That said, standard stuff like USNERDOC listed is good to go.
got to your channel by nutnfancy’s comments page. Awesome awesome awesome reviews and educationals. Really! I love it! Thank you very much for your time!
USNERDOC you should sell these kits on ebay just exclude the medications.
I’d buy a few!
Great Vid some of the item you have are hard to find in the UK and some of the name are different. but still a great vid.
@mrmonkeyman50 – Love it! “. . . a bag of bags, just because!” That is me for sure.
@USNERDOC Oh, yes, I forgot to mention: I always include empty zip lock bags in my FAK. Why? They are light-weight, can replace broken bags in the kit, and can be used to carry things away as needed. And you are the USNERDOC, so you need a bag of bags, just because!
@mrmonkeyman50 – You make some excellent suggestions! That is the beauty of these kits is that we can customize to our own individual needs. I use the County Comm razor knifes quite a bit and have included them in my Level II kit. Thanks for watching and for your input!
Suggested additions (which would easily fit): electrolyte tablets, hemostat, pen, small lighter (sterilization — yes, you can also use the alcohol swabs, but I like fire), folding scissors, burn gel packets, ranger band, triangular bandage, and 2nd skin (Spenco) for after blistersform. These additions substantially increase your capability with only a minimum add on weight/volume. By the way, Countycomm razor blades are more convenient to handle.
Great design, I’m modding mine to match. Have you thought about your ointment bursting under pressure? If your kit were to get stacked underneath something or if somebody were to sit on it, do you think it would bust open? In my kit, I have a small hardshelled case (sort of like your Pocket FAK) that I use for liquids and ointments. Thanks again!
